The Kerf Table explores traditional tambour wood joinery in the context of minimal, contemporary design. Tambour surfaces use thin wood panels adhered to fabric in order to create a roll-able surface. A flexible 2-sided tambour hinge in the Kerf Table allows the table top surface to bend directly into a leg, with the interior curve perfectly beveled to support the arc of the intended curve.
The thin line of the steel legs plays off of the traditional hairpin leg, and while providing a playful contrast to the bending wood surface, is still subtle enough to let the highlight of the object fall on the tambour hinge.
